What to expect from your journey with Nihongo Know.
— a smarter, more realistic way to learn Japanese
Learning at Nihongo Know is personalized and student-driven.
Your learning plan evolves as your ability grows, so what you study always matches where you actually are, not where a textbook thinks you should be.
You’re here to truly use Japanese: to speak, to understand the culture behind the language, and to grow steadily over time.
This is not about cramming, quick fixes, or collecting grammar points.
Instead, the curriculum is built around healthy habits, consistent progress, and real conversational skills that last.
Here are the 3 core supports you will receive:
From Bilingual Support to Natural Immersion
1 Starting Where You Are
A strong foundation is essential for learning Japanese, but that foundation looks different for every learner.
Classes begin with English support when needed, based on your current level and confidence, and gradually shift toward full Japanese immersion.
2 Your Pace, Your Progress
The transition to full Japanese immersion happens naturally, guided by the learning environment rather than by the learner.
Some students are ready after just a month of once-a-week lessons, while for others it takes closer to three months, but in every case, Japanese gradually becomes the primary language as your skills develop.
You focus on engaging with the language, and I adjust the classroom to match your evolving abilities.
This ensures that every step feels intuitive, manageable, and meaningful, giving you the confidence to use Japanese in ways you might not have thought possible at the start.
3 Fluency Through Experience
My role is to guide you toward thinking and responding in Japanese naturally, connecting sounds, structure, and context so that understanding comes from experience, not translation.
The goal is real fluency: the ability to process and produce Japanese as a living language, not as textbook knowledge.
Tools That Support Your Learning
1 Resources as a Foundation
Textbooks and materials are tools, not the center of learning.
I select resources that match your level and goals, available as PDFs or for purchase, and use them as a foundation to build from.
2 Transforming Knowledge into Use
Lessons are shaped around your sentences, experiences, and speaking practice.
Rather than relying on rote exercises, we transform textbook content into language you can actually use. Examples are customized to your interests so Japanese becomes personal, relevant, and memorable.
3 Active Use Over Passive Study
All additional online resources, notes, and targeted feedback are available on your personal student page, giving you easy access anytime to support independent practice.
Lessons may use a textbook or not at all, whatever best helps you progress. The focus is always on actively using Japanese, not just studying it.
Learning as a Continuous Process
1 Learning Beyond the Classroom
Learning doesn’t stop when class ends, it continues as part of your daily life.
You receive personalized study guidance, focused feedback, and small, intentional exercises designed to fit naturally into your routine.
2 Experiencing Japanese as It’s Lived
Special classes, workshops, and meetups offer further opportunities to use Japanese in context, deepen your skills, and experience the language as it’s actually lived.
3 You Drive, I Guide
Throughout the process, you remain in the driver’s seat.
I provide structure, perspective, and momentum, so each step connects to the next, from forming sentences to building confidence, and from lessons to real-world communication.
