Hello !

I’m Haruka ! I have over 10 years of experience in teaching, and I absolutely love it! After earning my teaching license at Hyogo University of Teacher Education, national university in Japan, I’ve dedicated myself to inspiring students both in the classroom and real life experiences. I’m excited to continue making a positive impact in your Japanese journey.

I’ve experienced three significant turning points in my life that have shaped who I am today. The first came when I was just 9 years old. My family moved from Tokyo to Osaka, and suddenly, everything felt different. “Why do people in Osaka speak so differently?” I wondered. The accent, the expressions, even the way people interacted—it was all new to me. This early experience opened my eyes to the rich diversity within Japan itself, sparking my lifelong curiosity about regional cultures and dialects.

The second turning point happened when I was 21. I decided to explore Japan on my own, traveling by foldable bicycle, hitchhiking from place to place and staying at home which is someone’s that I’ve just met on the day.

For a year, I journeyed through towns and villages, meeting people from all walks of life. I encountered customs and traditions that were completely unfamiliar, even though they were part of my own country. “How does life on a small island differ from the bustling cities?” “What makes Shikoku’s pilgrimage routes so sacred?” These experiences deepened my understanding of Japan and fueled my passion for sharing its culture with others.

After that year, I spent a decade traveling the world, immersing myself in different cultures and learning from people across the globe. Now based in Vancouver, Canada, I found my calling in teaching Japanese.

The third and most profound turning point was when I began teaching Japanese. I’ll never forget the moment when a student, who had struggled with basic phrases, confidently held a conversation in Japanese. Watching their progress was incredibly rewarding. It was then that I truly understood the impact I could have as a teacher. I realized that teaching Japanese wasn’t just about language—it was about helping others connect with the culture, history, and people of Japan.

These three turning points have shaped my journey as a teacher. They’ve taught me the importance of understanding diversity, embracing new experiences, and sharing the beauty of Japanese culture with the world. My goal is to help my students not only learn Japanese but also cultivate a deep appreciation for the language and the rich cultural tapestry it represents.
